How to Monetize a Twitch or Kick Stream Within the Rules

Key takeaways

  • On Twitch, subs and Bits open once you finish monetization setup, while ads, sponsorship tools and payouts need Affiliate (25 followers, 4 hours, 4 days, 3 average viewers in 30 days) or Partner.
  • Kick pays Partners per stream based on viewership and keeps a 95/5 subscription split, but Partner status needs 75 average concurrent viewers and other 30-day thresholds, or a Fast Track review.
  • Both platforms require a paid promotion disclosure, ban stat manipulation, and restrict gambling, so never reward follows or subs and keep any viewer rewards program on your own website.

How to monetize a Twitch or Kick stream in 2026

On Twitch you earn from subscriptions, Bits, ads, and sponsorships. Subs and Bits open once you finish Twitch’s monetization setup, while ads, sponsorship tools and cash payouts need Affiliate or Partner status. On Kick you earn from subscriptions (Kick says you keep 95%), and once you join the KICK Partner Program, from revenue per stream based on how many viewers show up. Outside both platforms you can add sponsorships, affiliate links, and a rewards page on your own website, as long as you disclose paid promotion and never pay viewers for follows, subs or views.

Every rule below comes from the platforms’ own pages, checked on October 21, 2026. Both change often, and Kick says its Partner metrics may change, so confirm numbers in your dashboard.

Twitch monetization tiers and requirements

Twitch’s About Monetization on Twitch page groups streamers into four types:

  • All streamers: anyone can go live. No monetization tools.
  • Monetization setup complete: after you accept the Monetized Streamer Agreement and finish onboarding, you get subscriptions and Bits. Twitch says further requirements must be met to qualify for a payout, but you can spend the balance on eligible Twitch purchases. If you are 13 to 17, a parent or legal guardian must accept the agreement for you.
  • Affiliate: adds ads, the Creator Sponsorship Profile, third-party campaigns, the Plus Program and cash payouts.
  • Partner: adds custom Cheermotes, 60-day VOD storage, prioritized support, and payout fees covered by Twitch. Entry is by application and is not guaranteed.

Twitch Affiliate requirements

The Achievements help page lists four Path to Affiliate goals, and all four must be met within the same 30-day period:

  1. Reach 25 followers.
  2. Stream for 4 hours.
  3. Stream on 4 different days.
  4. Reach an average of 3 viewers on 4 different stream days in the last 30 days.

Chatbots do not count as viewers. Onboarding then asks for two-factor authentication, tax interviews, and a payout method.

Twitch Partner requirements

The Twitch Partner Program overview asks for the Path to Partner achievement plus, for each of the two consecutive months before you apply, at least 6 streams on 6 different days that average 75 viewers or more. Twitch also considers suspension history, and may accept channels outside the criteria for exceptional growth or an established audience elsewhere.

How Twitch pays: subs, Bits, ads and sponsors

Subscriptions and the Plus Program

Viewers subscribe at Tier 1, 2 or 3, or with a free Prime sub. The Plus Program gives qualifying Affiliates and Partners an enhanced net revenue share on recurring and gift subs: Level 1 is 60/40 and Level 2 is 70/30. To qualify you hold 100 or 300 Plus Points for three consecutive months, and only recurring subs count. Twitch’s pages word the threshold both as “a minimum of” and “more than”, so the exact boundary is unclear.

Bits

Bits are virtual goods viewers buy to Cheer in your chat. Twitch’s Partner overview says participating Partners receive 1 cent per Bit used to Cheer for them. The feature table shows Affiliates and set-up streamers can receive Bits too.

Ads

Affiliates and Partners earn a Net Ad Revenue Share from ads on their channel. Twitch’s Ads Manager page says that running at least 3 minutes of ads per hour (the Recommended or High setting) qualifies you for a 55% net ad revenue share, with no minimum streaming hours. The revenue estimates from the old Ads Incentive Program now appear inside Ads Manager for Partners.

Sponsorships

Affiliates and Partners get a Creator Sponsorship Profile and third-party campaigns; Affiliates need Creator Certification for sponsorship invites. Deals you sign yourself fall under the disclosure rules below.

Kick monetization: subscriptions and the KICK Partner Program

Subscriptions

Kick’s help article on becoming a KICK Partner says the Enable Subscriptions button appears in your Streamer Dashboard after you stream at least 5 total hours, counted across sessions, and that streamers receive 95% of subscription revenue through a 95/5 split. Setup runs through Stripe, and Kick’s subscription setup guide says you cannot set up subscriptions until Stripe is available in your country.

KICK Partner Program requirements

The KICK Partner Program is what pays you per stream. Kick’s How to join the KICK Partner Program article lists these standard requirements over the past 30 days:

  • A verified Kick channel and a completed About section with social links
  • An average of 75 concurrent viewers
  • 30 hours streamed
  • 25 active subscriptions
  • 250 unique chatters
  • 3 VODs

Meeting them makes you eligible to apply, not accepted, and Kick says the metrics may change. Creators with an established audience elsewhere can apply through Fast Track, which skips the streaming requirements.

How Kick Partner pay works

The KICK Partner page says Partners earn every stream based on how many viewers show up, but it does not publish a rate or formula. Three details matter for planning:

  • Multistreaming halves it. With the Multistreaming toggle on, Kick says you earn 50% of your usual Kick revenue.
  • Some categories earn nothing. Kick says streams in the Just Sleeping and gambling categories are demonetized.
  • Ads do not pay you directly. Kick’s Advertising on KICK for creators article says ads do not currently generate additional payment and creators cannot opt out of scheduled ads.

Kick also has KICKs, digital goods viewers use to send Gifts. The KICKs Usage Policy mentions creator payouts tied to Gifts but states no share, and says creators may not solicit KICKs from minors.

Sponsorships and paid promotion disclosure

Twitch’s Branded Content Guidelines define branded content as content made for a third party in exchange for something of value, money or free products. When it is a central part of your stream, you must tick Branded Content under Edit Stream Info in Stream Manager. Viewers then see an “includes paid promotion” message for 10 seconds when they join. You do not need it for sponsor panels, products that happen to be on camera, affiliate links shared in answer to questions, or your own products. Twitch warns that the tool will not always meet your legal obligations, and repeated failure to disclose can lead to suspension.

Twitch bans some sponsor categories outright, including risky gambling, weapons, tobacco, cannabis, ICOs, multilevel marketing, get-rich-quick schemes, payday loans, and viewbotting services.

Kick’s Community Guidelines (updated March 19, 2026) go further. You must use Kick’s Branded Content tool, show a visual overlay such as #Ad or #Sponsored in the stream title, and say it out loud at the start of the sponsored segment. Kick says to avoid vague words like “Partner” or “Collab” and to use plain language such as “Paid Promotion”. Creators must also clearly disclose affiliate links. Kick’s Advertising Policy, which also covers creators’ sponsored integrations, prohibits get-rich-quick and pyramid schemes, meme-coins and ICOs.

For what the law expects on top of platform tools, read Affiliate disclosure rules: what the FTC requires. The short version for live video: say it and show it, and repeat it for viewers who join late.

Gambling streams and sponsors

  • Twitch: the Community Guidelines forbid links, codes, banners or verbal referrals to sites with slots, roulette or dice games. Stake.com, Rollbit, Duelbits, Roobet, Blaze and Gamdom cannot be streamed or linked at all, logos included. Skins gambling sponsorships are banned. Fantasy sports, sports betting and poker sites are permitted at this time.
  • Kick: creators must follow the gambling laws where they are, may share affiliate links or run sponsored gambling content only for platforms licensed in the relevant jurisdiction, must label gambling streams for age, and must never let minors take part. Giveaways that need viewer “buy-ins” are banned, and the gambling category earns no Partner revenue.

Growth tactics that cost you monetization

Both platforms police fake growth, because their thresholds depend on real numbers.

  • Twitch lists “viewership tampering (such as artificially inflating follow or live viewer stats)”, spam, unauthorized advertisements, and cheating the Drops or Channel Points systems as prohibited. Its Plus Program abuse criteria add that you may not pay any person to subscribe to your channel or create multiple accounts that subscribe.
  • Kick prohibits bots and tools that inflate views, followers or interactions. Its grounds for revoking Partner status add self-financing your channel through subscriptions, joining stat-inflation communities, 90 days of inactivity, and mirror, blank or pre-recorded streams.

Never do these, on stream or off it

Giving points, prizes or giveaway entries for following, subscribing, gifting subs, Cheering or sending Gifts; buying viewers, followers or chatters; running viewer bots or “watch my stream in a muted tab” schemes; subscribing to yourself from other accounts; and using Twitch to send viewers to your stream on another platform. Each one breaks a rule quoted on this page.

Grow with clips, raids, collaborations and a community between streams. How to grow social media followers without fake ones covers the short-video side, and How to get more Discord members covers the community side.

A viewer rewards page on your own website

You can back a community points system with an offerwall: viewers earn your points by completing offers from advertisers, such as trying an app or answering a survey, and you earn a payout for each completed offer. What is an offerwall? explains the model.

Keep the whole thing off the streaming platform. The earn page lives on your own website, where viewers sign in to an account you control, and your points balance is stored on your server. Your Twitch or Kick channel can link to it from a panel, and a Discord server is a natural home for the community around it. How to monetize a Discord server, How to add an offerwall to a Discord bot and The best Discord bots cover that side.

Rules for a clean setup:

  1. No points for platform actions. Never reward follows, subs, Bits, KICKs, watch time or chatting. That keeps you clear of the rules above.
  2. Viewers must be 16 or older. Twitch and Kick allow users from 13; an offerwall does not. Ask for age at sign-up, keep younger viewers out, and require parental permission under 18.
  3. Talk about it honestly. “Earn points by trying apps and surveys on my site” is fine. “Free money” or “get rich from my stream” is misleading, and Twitch and Kick both ban get-rich-quick promotion. Promoting your offerwall: allowed and prohibited ways has wording you can copy.
  4. Do not spam chat. A panel link and a !earn command viewers run themselves are enough. Timers posting the link every few minutes look like the repetitive messages both platforms prohibit.
  5. Disclose when you push one offer on stream. If you play a game because its offer pays you, treat it as paid promotion: tick Branded Content, say so out loud, and on Kick add #Ad to the title.
  6. Keep gambling off it. Never feature a gambling offer on stream.
  7. Use fixed prices, not raffles. Redeem points for set rewards such as game keys; raffle entries can raise sweepstakes and gambling law questions.

Pricing a reward store for viewers

Illustrative example, sample figures only: you credit viewers 500 points for every $1 an offer pays you. An offer that pays you $2.00 credits a viewer 1,000 points. If you price a $5 game key at 5,000 points, a viewer needs offers that paid you $10 to redeem it, so half of what you earn funds the reward and half stays with you. Try your own rate and split in the virtual currency calculator, and read How to set your virtual currency exchange rate.

Credit points only from a signed postback on your server, take them back when an offer is reversed, and allow one account per person. What is a postback URL? covers the crediting side, Stop multi-accounting and VPN abuse covers fraud, and How to start a rewards website covers running a full points economy.

An earn page for your channel’s website

Sharklio is a pay-per-result affiliate network. If your channel has a website where viewers sign in, the Sharklio offerwall adds an earn page with one link your server builds and signs, your own points name, icon, rate and split, and a signed postback for every credit and reversal, so points land in the balance you already keep. Viewers must be 16 or older, offers depend on their country and device, and VPN, proxy, Tor and data center traffic is blocked from the wall. Every publisher application and every app is reviewed by hand before the wall goes live. See how the wall works, or get in touch with questions before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Twitch Affiliate requirements in 2026?

Within one 30-day period you need 25 followers, 4 hours streamed, streams on 4 different days, and an average of 3 viewers on 4 stream days. You then complete onboarding, including tax interviews.

Can you make money on Twitch without being an Affiliate?

Partly. After you finish Twitch’s monetization setup you can receive subs and Bits, but Twitch says further requirements must be met before you can take a payout; until then you can spend the balance on eligible Twitch purchases.

How much does Kick pay streamers?

Kick says streamers keep 95% of subscription revenue, and KICK Partners also earn per stream based on how many viewers show up. Kick does not publish the per-viewer rate, and Partner revenue is halved while multistreaming.

What are the Kick Partner requirements?

Kick lists a verified channel, a completed About section, and, over the past 30 days, 75 average concurrent viewers, 30 hours streamed, 25 active subscriptions, 250 unique chatters, 3 VODs and 250 followers. Creators with an audience elsewhere can apply through Fast Track instead.

Can you stream gambling on Twitch or Kick?

Twitch bans promoting slots, roulette or dice sites but permits poker, sports betting and fantasy sports. Kick allows sponsored gambling from licensed platforms with age labels, but the category is demonetized for Partners.

Can I reward viewers for following or subscribing?

No. Twitch prohibits artificially inflating follow stats and paying anyone to subscribe for Plus Program qualification, and Kick prohibits manipulating followers and interactions. Reward completed offers on your own site instead.
