Key takeaways
- Hypixel Studios allows Hytale servers to sell subscriptions, access passes, cosmetics, in-server items, ads, sponsorships and donations, with you as the merchant of record and every price shown before purchase.
- Real-money gambling, cash-out of items or currency, NFTs and crypto token schemes are banned on every server, and paid random items need published odds and are banned outright on All Ages servers.
- The rules do not mention offerwalls, so keep any earn page on your website or Discord for players 16 and older, pay only in a server currency that never cashes out, and ask Hypixel Studios if your setup is unclear.
How to monetize a Hytale server: what Hypixel Studios allows
You can monetize a Hytale server by selling subscriptions, access passes, cosmetics and in-server items, and by running ads, sponsorships and donations. Section 7.7 of the Hytale EULA names all of these, and the Server Operator Policies add the limits: no real-money gambling, no cash-out of items or currency, no NFTs or crypto token schemes, published odds for any paid random item, and stricter rules for servers aimed at all ages. Hypixel Studios takes a 0% revenue share until January 13, 2028.
Hytale entered early access on January 13, 2026, and its rules are new and still moving. Everything below was checked on October 29, 2026. Read the live pages before you open a store, and ask a lawyer if a plan sits in a gray area.
The official pages that set the rules
Hytale is unusual: its server rules are written into the EULA itself instead of a separate guidelines page. Five official sources matter.
- The EULA (version 2.3, effective January 13, 2026). Section 7 covers server software and operators. Section 7.7 lists the ways you may monetize, 7.8 bans gambling and cash-out, 7.9 sets the paid random item rules, and 7.11 covers revenue share.
- The Server Operator Policies (version 1.1, effective January 13, 2026). The EULA makes these binding for every server operator. Sections 4 to 6 apply to everyone; sections marked “Listed Servers” apply to servers in the official directory.
- The Terms of Service (version 2.2). They define virtual currency, ban real-money trading of Hytale’s own virtual content, and set the rules for minors.
- The Community Guidelines (version 1.0). Server operators must enforce them on their servers. They ban spam, scam links, fake giveaways and ads injected without disclosure.
- Hytale’s 1st FAQ (December 3, 2025). Executive Director Patrick “Lyall” Derbic answered questions on server cosmetics and the revenue share. It is a blog post, not a contract, but it shows how the studio reads its own rules.
Server Discovery and “Listed Servers”
The policies page still says Listed Servers “is currently not available”, but Server Discovery, the in-game server browser, launched with Update 5 on May 26, 2026. The patch notes say servers that meet the policies and pass manual review appear there. Hypixel’s official server lists post explains that you submit a server profile from your account, pick an audience tag (Everyone, Teen or Mature), and wait for moderation. If you list your server, assume the Listed Server sections apply to you.
Allowed vs not allowed on a Hytale server
The policies split servers by audience: All Ages, Teen and Mature. A listed server declares its audience; an unlisted server does not, but sections 4 to 6 still apply to all operators. Our reading: if children play on your server, follow the All Ages rules. Checked on October 29, 2026:
| Method | All Ages server | Teen or Mature server | Where the rule is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Subscriptions, access passes, paid access | Allowed | Allowed | EULA 7.7; total price and renewal terms shown before purchase |
| Your own server cosmetics | Allowed | Allowed | EULA 7.7; never “official-looking” cosmetics (policies 7.3) |
| Donations and tips | Allowed | Allowed | EULA 7.7 |
| Gameplay-affecting purchases | Not addressed; we would avoid them | Allowed if clearly tagged and disclosed | Policies 4.3(a) |
| Ads and sponsorships | Only family-safe or certified ads | Must suit the declared age group | Policies 4.2(b), 4.3(b); clearly labeled (EULA 7.7(e)) |
| Paid random items (crates, loot boxes) | Not allowed | Allowed with odds, expected cost and records | Policies 4.2(a), 5; EULA 7.9 |
| “Double random” paid mechanics | Not allowed | Not allowed | Policies 6 |
| Server currency that stays on the server | Allowed | Allowed | EULA 7.7 (in-server items); no cash-out (7.8(c)) |
| Cash-out, or swapping items or currency for money | Not allowed | Not allowed | EULA 7.8(c) |
| Real-money gambling, betting, skin wagering, paid raffles | Not allowed | Not allowed | EULA 7.8; policies 4.1(d) |
| NFTs, crypto tokens, play-to-earn token schemes | Not allowed | Not allowed | EULA 7.7(g); policies 4.1(d) |
| Accepting crypto as a payment method | Allowed | Allowed | Policies 4.1(d) |
| Blocking official cosmetics, or charging to show them | Not allowed (listed) | Not allowed (listed) | EULA 7.10(b); policies 7.3(b) |
The All Ages column has one gap. The policies say Teen and Mature servers may sell gameplay-affecting purchases if they disclose them, but they say nothing either way for All Ages servers. Hypixel’s FAQ promises the studio itself “will never add P2W options” to official monetization. On a server full of younger players, we would keep paid perks to cosmetics and comfort, and ask Hypixel Studios before selling power.
Rules for every monetized server
Section 7.7 of the EULA applies the moment you charge for anything. In plain terms:
- You are the merchant of record. Pricing, delivery, customer service, refunds where the law requires them, chargebacks, taxes and consumer law are all on you, not on Hypixel.
- Show the full deal before checkout. Total price, renewal terms, material limits and any regional restrictions. The policies add that refund policies and key purchase terms must be disclosed before checkout.
- No dark patterns. No deceptive pricing, hidden fees or misleading claims, as policies section 4.1 puts it.
- Payments suited to your audience. Use lawful payment processors and data practices, including protections for minors where they apply.
- Label ads and sponsorships, and follow advertising standards and age restrictions.
- Never look official. EULA 7.3 bans using Hypixel trademarks, logos or branding in a way that suggests official status or endorsement.
If you list your server, the policies also ask for public links to your website or store, privacy policy, refund policy and support contact, plus an accurate self-rating. That rating includes monetization checkboxes: donations, subscriptions, paid access, ads (and whether an ad network is used), cosmetics-only purchases, disclosed gameplay-affecting purchases, and paid random items.
Breaking the rules has consequences. The policies list warnings, corrective action plans, delisting, suspension of server tokens or keys, and account-level actions.
Crates, loot boxes and the “double random” ban
Paid random items get the most detailed rules, and they are where server stores most often go wrong. On a Teen or Mature server, a paid crate is allowed only if you:
- Show the odds as numbers, not only labels such as “rare”, plus duplicate rules, any pity or guarantee mechanic, and any time-limited odds change.
- Keep a place inside the server where players can check current odds at any time.
- Publish the expected spend to get each top-tier item, each featured item and a full set, and the maximum spend if a guarantee exists.
- Keep odds tables and their change history for 12 months, because Hypixel may ask for them.
- Block purchases by players identified as minors, give a purchase confirmation and transaction history, and never let crate contents be redeemed for money or sold outside the server.
Section 6 bans “double random” outright on every server, whenever payment is involved at any stage. Its own examples: a paid crate that randomly drops key shards you combine to spin a wheel, a loot box that randomly drops a ticket to roll again, and a random pack that gives a random amount of a currency usable only for gacha. Random rewards with no payment anywhere in the chain are fine.
Store items that put a Hytale server outside the rules
Any paid crate on an All Ages server, crates without numeric odds and expected-cost figures, multi-stage paid randomness, cosmetics designed to look like official Hytale items, a currency or item players can sell back to you or cash out, NFT or token rewards, real-money betting or raffles, prices that only appear after a player joins, and ads that are not labeled or do not suit your audience.
Building a store players trust
Hytale does not require a particular payment provider today. Store platforms built for game servers, such as Tebex, offer Hytale storefronts, and you can also run your own checkout. The official Hytale Server Manual lists an integrated payment system under future additions, described as “optional but encouraged”, so watch for changes there.
Cosmetics are the safest core. The FAQ says third-party servers may override cosmetics to match their theme or sell their own cosmetics for their server, and asks them to keep supporting official cosmetics. Listed servers must do so: theme overrides are limited to specific areas or minigames, must be disclosed, and must restore the player’s own cosmetics afterwards.
One line in that FAQ deserves care. It says servers may sell their own cosmetics “for their server only to cover their costs.” The binding EULA and policies contain no such cost limit, and they plan a future revenue share on server income. Read the FAQ line as a statement of intent, keep prices fair, and if you plan to run your server as a sizable business, ask Hypixel Studios to confirm.
The revenue share
EULA 7.11 says Hypixel may charge a revenue share on server monetization. The policies set it at 0% until January 13, 2028, and the EULA says any increase applies only to revenue earned after the change. In the FAQ, the studio said its cut “won’t ever exceed 20%”. Keep clean records of all server income from the start, so reporting is easy if the rate changes. Can a Hytale server use an offerwall?
An offerwall lets players earn your server currency by completing offers from advertisers, such as trying an app or answering a survey, and pays you per completed offer. It gives players who cannot or will not pay a way to earn the same cosmetics buyers get. What is an offerwall? explains the model.
None of Hytale’s official pages mention offerwalls. What they do say: advertising is a named monetization method, in-server items and currency are allowed, and cash-out is banned. So our reading is that an offerwall paying a server currency fits the rules if you stay well inside them. That is our interpretation, not Hypixel’s. If your setup differs from the one below, ask Hypixel Studios through Hytale support before launch.
- Currency only, never cash. Earned coins have no cash value, never cash out, and cannot be swapped for money or gift cards, as EULA 7.8(c) requires. They are not a token on any blockchain.
- The wall lives on your website or Discord. Players sign in on your site and open the earn page themselves. On Discord, a
/earncommand can link members to that page; Add an offerwall to a Discord bot shows the build, and How to monetize a Discord server covers Discord’s own rules. - No offer spam in game. The Community Guidelines ban spam and ads injected without disclosure. A labeled link in your server menu or website is enough.
- Not on All Ages servers. All Ages servers may show only family-safe or certified ads, and Sharklio requires end users to be at least 16, with parental permission under 18. If your server targets everyone, an offerwall is the wrong tool.
- Gate by age on Teen and Mature servers. Ask for age at sign-up on your site and keep under-16 players away from the earn page. Offerwall COPPA rules for kids’ apps explains why.
- Declare it. If you list your server, tick the ads descriptor and say an ad network is used.
- Never reward likes or favorites. Server Discovery sorts by likes and favorites, so paying players to like your listing manipulates it. Rewards come from completed offers only.
Illustrative example: pricing earned gems against a cosmetic bundle
Suppose your store sells a pet and hat bundle for $4.99 or 500 gems. If you set 100 gems per $1 of your earnings and pass all of it to players, an offer that pays you $0.70 shows 70 gems, and a player needs about $5 of completed offers for the bundle, roughly what a buyer pays. Sample figures only; try your own rate and split in the virtual currency calculator.
Credit gems only from a signed postback on your server and take them back when an offer is reversed (What is a postback URL? covers the mechanics). Rewards attract alt accounts, so read Stop multi-accounting and VPN abuse before launch and How to set your virtual currency exchange rate before you fix prices. Offer income is server income, so count it in your records for the revenue share.
A monetization plan for a new Hytale server
- Decide your audience first: All Ages, Teen or Mature. It decides whether crates, gameplay perks and an earn page are possible at all.
- Write your store page with every price, renewal term and refund policy visible, and check each item against the table above.
- Launch with your own cosmetics and a supporter subscription. Keep official cosmetics working everywhere.
- Skip paid crates until you can publish numeric odds, expected costs and 12 months of records. On All Ages servers, skip them for good.
- Add a donation goal that pays for hosting, with a server-wide reward everyone shares.
- Submit a server profile to Server Discovery once your policy, refund and support pages are live.
- If your players are mostly 16 or older, add an earn page on your website or Discord, following the rules above.
How to add Sharklio to your Hytale server’s website
These steps are for Teen and Mature servers whose players are mostly 16 or older; on an All Ages server, skip the wall.
- Apply as a publisher. Sign up at sharklio.com. Every application is reviewed by hand, and once you are approved, apps you add are live right away. Tell us your server’s audience tag and who your players are.
- Add your website. In the dashboard, set your currency name, such as gems, its icon, the conversion rate, and the wall design, and check it in the live preview.
- Put the wall on your earn page. Your web server signs the wall link for each signed-in player and shows it as an iframe, or behind a floating Earn button. A Discord /earn command should link to that page, and the user ID is always your website account, never a Discord ID.
- Credit gems from the postback. Add gems to the balance your store uses only when a signed postback arrives, and remove them on a reversal. The postback docs list every parameter.
- Test before launch. On the Integration status tab, use “Open as a test user” and “Send a test postback” to check the whole loop, as in Test your app before launch.
- Declare it. If your server is listed in Server Discovery, tick the ads descriptor and say an ad network is used.
An earn page for your Hytale server’s website
Sharklio is a pay-per-result affiliate network, and its review of your application includes who your audience is, so describe your server and its audience tag honestly. See how the wall works, and get in touch if you have questions before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
Can you make money from a Hytale server?
Yes. Section 7.7 of the Hytale EULA covers servers that sell subscriptions, access passes, cosmetics, in-server items, ads, sponsorships or donations, as long as you follow the Server Operator Policies and consumer law.
Does Hypixel take a cut of Hytale server revenue?
Not yet. The Server Operator Policies set the revenue share at 0% until January 13, 2028, and Hypixel’s December 2025 FAQ says the cut will never exceed 20%.
Is pay-to-win allowed on Hytale servers?
Teen and Mature servers may sell gameplay-affecting purchases if they clearly tag and disclose them. The policies do not address them for All Ages servers, so keep those to cosmetics or ask Hypixel Studios first.
Can a Hytale server sell crates or loot boxes?
Not on All Ages servers. Teen and Mature servers may, with numeric odds, expected-cost figures, 12 months of records and no sales to identified minors, and “double random” paid mechanics are banned everywhere.
Do I have to use Tebex for a Hytale server store?
No. Hypixel names no required payment provider, and you are the merchant of record. An optional integrated payment system is listed as a future addition in the official Server Manual.
Can my Hytale server accept crypto?
Yes, as a payment method for permitted purchases. NFTs, speculative crypto tokens and play-to-earn token schemes are banned on every server.
Can players earn server currency through offers?
Hytale’s rules do not mention offerwalls. Our reading is that it fits on a Teen or Mature server if the wall sits on your website or Discord, players are 16 or older, and the currency never cashes out; ask Hypixel Studios if your setup is different.
